LABRADORITE

Labradorite was first discovered in the 18th century in Canada and quickly captivated explorers and jewelers with its metallic reflections that resemble the Northern Lights. This unique optical effect, known as labradorescence, made it highly valued in European jewelry. Its shifting play of light gives the stone an enigmatic, modern aura perfect for men who appreciate authenticity and distinctiveness.

The main deposits are found in Canada, Finland, Madagascar, and Russia. Large blocks are extracted and cut to highlight their extraordinary color play. Thanks to its durability and natural beauty, labradorite has become a favorite choice for contemporary men’s jewelry design.

Cut and polished to enhance its shimmering effects, it pairs seamlessly with metals such as steel and silver, making it ideal for pieces that stand out with quiet sophistication. It is the stone of men who value originality and character without unnecessary extravagance.

Although it does not appear in classical antiquity since its official discovery dates back to the 18th century Inuit peoples had long associated labradorite with the Northern Lights. They believed it was a fragment of the aurora trapped in stone, often using it in ornaments and ritual tools. The ancient Norse also revered it, considering it a protective amulet tied to the sky. According to legend, when the stone is moved, its shimmering light reveals secrets, visions, and guidance.

CARE

Labradorite has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. While moderately durable, it can fracture under strong impact or sudden changes in temperature. To preserve it, avoid exposure to extreme heat or harsh chemicals. Clean with a damp cloth, dry thoroughly, and store in an individual case.
